An Unexpected Evacuation - A Hurricane Irma Update

Posted on

Tuesday evening every news and weather channel said Hurricane Irma would destroy the East coast of Florida. With two little ones we felt it would be safest to get out before mandatory evacuations began and the gas situation became dire on the way out of Florida.

We woke up at 4am and I raced to finish about 10 of my most pending orders that would be shipping the next day or two. By 11am hubby had put the shutters up on every window, I had thrown about half our wardrobe into our hamper (while missing pajama bottoms, underwear and basically all cold weather essentials)

We hit the road and made it to the North of Florida before the weather report came out. "Get out of Florida, no where is safe." So we hit the road and made it to the mountains of North Carolina! Thankful for an Old Navy nearby to gather sweaters and pants hah! Fall isn't just a myth we hear about in Florida, who knew?!

We are hoping to be back home by the weekend, although family who stayed in Florida let us know we still don't have power. I'm hoping to get back to making tutus and launching our Fall line asap and will keep you posted!

I have to say we were welcomed with such southern hospitality all the way from Jacksonville FL, to Savanna GA, to Asheville NC. From family, friends and strangers... thank you. The Asheville Museum of Science even had a sign for half off admission for Florida residents, and the little town we are staying in had a free museum. With starting homeschool preschool this year it was a wonderful experience for our children to go and see so much.
